Leland Morris Puckett passed away at the age of 81 on December 9, 2007 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas. He was born on March 13, 1926 in Calamine, Arkansas to Earl Ditzler and Dora Minnie Voyles Puckett. Leland retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Boatswain's Mate. He served through World War II, The Korean War and Vietnam. Putting his life on the line during WWII was his greatest mission. He later became a Navy Recruiter in Clovis, New Mexico before retiring and returning to Arkansas. Afterwards, he went into the nursing service and worked at the Fort Roots C A Hospital, in North Little Rock, Arkansas while living in Jacksonville. He then retired permanently and moved to Cave City, AR before settling in Batesville. He always had a nice yard wherever he lived because of his love of trees and flowers. Leland was an avid genealogist having documented his Puckett lineage to 1432. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Dorothy Henderson Puckett and one son Leland Charles Puckett. Seven brothers and one sister predeceased him. They are Walburn, Olaf, Orus , Earl Jr., Kenneth, Troy and Alvin Puckett and one sister Jewelean Lane.Leland is survived by his wife of seven years Dolores Gillihan Puckett and one son, Langley Puckett and wife Kim of Batesville, AR. Five daughters, Sue and Husband Glenn Bailey of Indianola, MS, Carol Jones of Little Rock, AR, Cherrie and husband Bob Arnold of Batesville, AR, Terry Colter also of Batesville, AR and Nita Carole Tyson of Ridgely, WV. He is also survived by three by three sisters, Maureen Nugent of Judsonia,AR, Edna Ford of Hot Springs, AR and Ima Neil Nugent of Stuttgart, AR, and by 12 grandchildren, Gary, Brian, Marvin, Kristina, Amber, Christopher, Deanna, Charles, Tommy, Meagan, Sydney and Misty and thirteen great grandchildren, Katie, Corina, Ashley, Cody, Kane, Tony, Chance, Benjamin, Kaine, Bailee, Izaiah, Hailey and Emma.Pallbearers will be Gary Jones, Marvin Elmore, Christopher Colter, Tony Levisee, Tommy Puckett, Charles Puckett and Langley Puckett.Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Elmore and Anthony Croslin.
