Ruth James King, age 88 of Batesville died Saturday January 5, 2008 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. She was born September 1, 1919 at Mobley, Arkansas to Elijah Washington and Lucy Ellen (Satterwhite) James. She was a mother, homemaker, worked for International Shoe Factory in Batesville and was a member of the Vine Street Missionary Baptist Church in Batesville.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon Paul King, one son Paul Dean King, five brothers, George Mitchell James, Virgil Valentine James, Elijah Walter James, Ruell Darius James and Vaughan Ezekiel James and five sisters, Myrtle Agnes Britton, Lucy Etta Young, Elizabeth Adeline James, Theodasia Effie Butler and Leoda Jeffery James.Survivors include one son, Harold Gene King of Batesville, eight grandchildren, Pam Jones of Benton, Allen King of Fayetteville, Paul King of Malvern, Cody King of Bryant, Jerry Don Smart of Batesville, Chris King of Little Rock, Patty Downs of Batesville and Teresa Keeling of Little Rock, numerous great grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two former daughter-in-laws, Verla Hoppe of Benton and Verna Love of Batesville, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will begin Tuesday January 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville. Burial will follow in the Mount View Cemetery located east of Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville.Visitation will begin Monday January 7, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Walter Jones, Allen King, Paul King, Cody King, Jerry Don Smart and Chris King.Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Rick Van Grouw, Dr. Homer Brooks and Dr. Bob Slaughter.The family will be available to receive guests at the Verna Love home at 989 Elsie Street in Batesville.
