Tommy Bolt age 92 of Cherokee Village died Saturday August 30, 2008 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born March 31, 1916 in Haworth, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and became a professional golfer in 1946. He worked as a caddie and club professional in Shreveport, Louisiana. He didn't join the PGA Tour until he was in his thirties, but went on to win fifteen PGA Tour titles, including one major championship, the 1958 U.S. Open. He was a member of the United States Ryder Cup teams of 1955 and 1957. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Evening Shade.He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Bolt of the home, one son, Tommy W. Bolt of Evening Shade, two grandchildren, Tracy Jane Bolt and Thomas Taylor Bolt both of Ash Flat and a host of other relatives and friends.Private graveside services will be held Tuesday September 2, 2008 at the Evening Shade Cemetery in Evening Shade with Rev. Larry Morris officiating. Arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.No visitation is planned.Pallbearers will be Larry Pries, Jim Dawson, Jim Johnson, David Boon, Dave Kaylor and Jim Wann.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Highland High School Golf Team Scholarship Fund at FNBC in Ash Flat.
