Clyde B. Simmons, age 90 of Smithville died Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Cave City Nursing Home in Cave City. He was born May 13, 1918 at Cave City, Arkansas to Charlie and Lizzie Girtman Simmons. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served during World War II, a retired farmer and retired from White Rodgers in Batesville. He was a member of the Ring's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bertha Faye Foster Simmons, three brothers, Olen Simmons, Leon Simmons and Charles Simmons and three sisters, Nova Hill, Louie Mae Cooper Damron and Iona Simmons.Survivors include three sons Clyde D. Simmons and wife, Martha of Lavaca, Donald Wayne Simmons and wife Brenda of Cave City and Dwight A. Simmons of Smithville, two sisters, Iola McMillan of Mart, Texas and Nina Simpson of Kansas City, Missouri, five grandchildren, Jonathan Simmons and Heather Landers both of Cave City, Adam Simmons of Smithville, Shawn Simmons and Ashley Simmons both of Little Rock, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will begin Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Grayden Milligan officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery located east of Cave City with arrangements by Quall Funeral Home of Cave City.Visitation will begin Wednesday, December 31, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.Pallbearers will be Charles Hutchison, Keith Bates, Jim Baxter, Larry Brown, Jim Simpson, Ronald Mobley and Johnny McMillan.Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons.
