F. Elwanda (Bearden) Curley age 79 of Hutchinson, Kansas (formerly of Ash Flat) died peacefully at her home on Sunday May 3, 2009. She was born May 17, 1929 in rural Sharp County Arkansas to William (Bill) and Estie Harrison Bearden. She was married to James L. Curley on June 17, 1961. Elwanda was a member of the Eastwood Church of Christ in Hutchinson, Kansas.Elwanda worked for the FBI before moving to Hutchinson to teach school, starting at Sherman Junior High. She taught for many years in the Hutchinson School System before retiring. She was a life member of KNEA, a teacher's organization.She was preceded in death by her parents.Survivors include her husband Jim Curley of the home, a step-son, Arlie Curley of San Diego, California; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Tommie and Jack Richardson of Ash Flat, Elaine Collins of Pocahontas and Linda and Buddy Day of Opelika, Alabama; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Kathy Bearden of Hutchinson, Kansas, Don K. and Melva Bearden of Woodstown, New Jersey and Dennis A. and Sara Bearden of Wichita, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.Graveside services will begin Friday May 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wiles Cemetery located at Ash Flat with David Tappe officiating. Arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.Visitation will begin Thursday May 7, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home in Cave City.In lieu of flowers the family requests a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of Elwanda.
