John (J.L.) Stroud, age 91 of Evening Shade died Tuesday, August, 4, 2009 at the Cave City Nursing Home. He was born March 19, 1918 at Evening Shade, Arkansas to Arthur and Mary Francis Dial Stroud. He was a retired farmer, worked at the Evening Shade Feed Mill, was a substitute mail carrier and worked at J.K. Southerland Poultry Processing Co. in Batesville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Zion.He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers Raybourn Stroud, Ray Stroud, Franklin D. Stroud, Tom Stroud, and Ralph Stroud; one sister, Jewell Dean Casey and two nephews Dean Casey and Stephen Stroud.Survivors include his wife, Lillian Stroud of the home; one sister, Fay Hutchison of Appleton, Wisconsin; three nieces, Linda Braatz of Appleton, Wisconsin, Joan Shaw of Quitman, and Carolyn Casey of Waco, Texas; two nephews, Randy Casey of Libertyville, Illinois, and Arthur Stroud, Jr. of Tampa, Florida; several other great-nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will begin Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Boyce Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery located at Evening Shade with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.Visitation will begin Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.Pallbearers will be Billy Ray, Dowl Thomas, Van Thomas, Clint Bailey, Gary Shell, and J.W. Vest.
