Zelma Wilkes, age 96, of Batesville, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Wood Lawn Nursing Home in Batesville. She was born February 26, 1913 at Maxville, Arkansas to John Mac and Allie Gammill Wilkerson. She was a retired telephone operator, a homemaker and member of the Matlock Road Church of God.She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Eldon Arnold and John H. Wilkes; two daughters, Ernestine Arnold and Theda Brinkley; five brothers, Marcus Wilkerson, Johnny Wilkerson, Howard Wilkerson, Verdell 'Red' Wilkerson, and Homer Allen Wilkerson; four sisters, Merle Arnold, Eva Taylor, Ruth Hamilton and Janie Bovart; two grandchildren, Michael Mills and Rhonda Watts.Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine and Lloyd Woods of Velvet Ridge, Glenda and Leonard Mills and Geraldine and John Downs all of Batesville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will begin Friday, October 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Eric Downs and Bro. Allen Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery located in Evening Shade with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.Visitation will begin Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.Pallbearers will be Donald Wilkes, Larry Wilkes, Allen Brown, Paul Don Carter, Walker Brown and Johnny Beard. Honorary pallbearers are Roland Carter and Dr. Greg Neaville.
