Roy Bernard 'Bunky' Fulbright, age 78 of Batesville, peacefully went to his Lord Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his home after succumbing to cancer after a valiant fight. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Linda (Duncan) Fulbright; his son, Steven Fulbright; his daughter, Betty Girtman; his stepdaughters Cynthia Weiss and Teresa Teague all of Batesville and Deborah Hunt of Keiser, AR; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers Clayton Fulbright of Vider, Texas; Larry Fulbright of Little Rock; and one sister Ruth Platt Birdwell of Lumberton, Texas; and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy D. and Bernice and a sister Geraldine Fulbright Long.Born and raised on Fulbright Mountain outside of Batesville. He was born October 21, 1931 the son of Roy D. and Bernice Priscilla (Smart) Fulbright. He resided in his early years in Paragould, Harrisburg and Newport. When he retired, he returned to his hometown for the remainder of his life. In 1950, he joined the U. S. Army, where he was a Private First Class. He met his wife, Linda at Newport and they were married in 1964 at Weldon, Arkansas. After serving with the U.S. Army, Bunky worked at the Batesville Lime Quarry until he had the opportunity to become a licensed pilot. In 1957, he applied his love of aviation and started flying commercially as a crop duster. Being certified in many types of propeller airplanes and helicopters, he also contracted as a personal pilot for the governor of Missouri and many other dignitaries including Hollywood celebrities. Bunky had a passion for racing and it didn't matter whether it was planes, cars, motorcycles or speedboats. He not only took pride in his flying, but also truly relished the friends he made during his time here on Earth. Bunky was the type of man that loved his family fiercely and took care of them till his dying breath. Roy Bernard 'Bunky' Fulbright will be missed.
