Edward Lee Long went home to be with the Lord Jesus, March 3, 2010 at the age of 82. He was born March 17, 1927 in Lexa, Arkansas to Charles Howard Long and Agnes Hemingway Long.He made his home in Sulphur Rock, Arkansas during the summer and in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas through the winter months.Ed is survived by his wife Myrtle Hall Long of the home, a brother Benjamin Asia Long of Conway, Arkansas, 5 children, Sheila Ann Bonvillian of Hoxie, Arkansas, Edward L. Long, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Burlington, Kansas, Charles H. (Chuck) Long and wife Sheila of El Dorado, Arkansas, Tommy M. Long and wife Rebecca of Springdale, Arkansas and Karen Sue Fagan and husband Austin of Grenada, Mississippi; two step-children, Mary Ann Cross and husband Terry of Batesville, Arkansas and Paul F. Ivy and wife Willie Faye of Marcella, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren, Johnny, Jason, Jimmy and Joey Larkin, Edward (Teddy) L. Long III, Jeremy and Austin Long, Jessica and Seth Long, AJ, Joshua and Jordan Fagan; 5 step grandchildren, Alan and Scott Wilson, Daniel Ivy, Michelle Treat and Sarah Gebhardt; ten great grandchildren, twelve step great grand children and close friends Bo and Dee Dee McCoy.His first wife Gladys Mae Copeland Long, his parents, brothers David and Walter Long and a sister Francis Steinbeck, preceded him in death.Ed loved his family and enjoyed his time with them; he enjoyed fishing, traveling, talking politics, dancing, golfing and college football. He loved the Lord and his church family at Sulphur Rock Baptist Church.Ed was retired but had enjoyed several different vocations including Supervisor at Gulf Oil and Gardia Chemical Companies, owned a CB Store, a Refrigeration business, was a Environmental Director at WRMC, owned and operated Minnesota Roofing and Specialty Coatings, even tried his hand at truck driving just to name a few of the things he accomplished. Anything he set his mind to, he could do it.He was a U. S. Navy Seamen 1st Class in WW II.Services will be Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sulphur Rock Baptist Church in Sulphur Rock, Arkansas with Brother Michael Conyers officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Arkansas.Pallbearers will be Edward Long Jr., Charles Long, Tommy Long, Austin Fagan, Terry Cross and Paul Ivy. Honorary pallbearers are Leon (Bo) McCoy, Russ Moyer, Dr. Robert Walton, Freddie Rounds and Johnny Rounds.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.
