Verna Louise Wigginton Harston Flanigan

Verna Louise Wigginton Harston Flanigan, age 83, of Hot Springs, AR departed this life on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Verna was born in Luxora, AR on July 4, 1927 to James Harrison and Onnie Lois Howell Wigginton.Verna attended school in Osceola. She married Bonnie Harston in 1947 and they soon moved to Michigan where he passed away in 1982. During the time in Michigan, she worked for Corning Glass Works for 24 years. After Bonnie's death, she moved back to Arkansas to live with her mother at Cave City, Arkansas. She was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ where she met Joseph Flanigan whom she married in 1991. He passed away in 1994.Other than her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and two younger sisters, Margaret Virginia and Shirley Ann Wigginton.Survivors include a step-son whom she helped raise. James Harston and wife, Sue, of Hot Springs, Arkansas with whom Verna lived before her health deteriorated to the point that she had to go to a healthcare facility. She had lived in Quapaw Convalescent Center for the past three years. Other survivors are five siblings: J. C. Wigginton of Okeechobee, Florida; Lenora Lewis, Jeanne Rice, John Wigginton and Alice Pendergrass all of Cave City, Arkansas. She leaves behind step-grandsons, Jimmy, Perry and Gary Harston and their offspring. She also leaves step-sons Joseph, Tony and Steve Flanigan and their families. She has many nieces, nephews, and other relatives, friends and a Christian family who loved her very much and will always remember her fondly.Although Verna bore no children of her own, she once had a dog, 'Dump', that was her precious baby. Verna was like a 'mother hen' to youngsters, particularly to her younger siblings whose aches and pains she nursed and to whom she gave comfort, love and encouragement. Although Verna's mortal body is gone, she will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.A graveside service will be Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Young Cemetery located at Charlotte with Troy Henley and Royce Pendergrass officiating. Arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.No visitation is planned.
