Howard Whitener, age 90 of Floral died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Batesville. He was born June 30, 1921 in Mississippi to Grover Cleveland and Ruth Grissom Whitener. He was a retired truck driver and of the Southern Baptist faith.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Irene Whitener, six brothers, Norman Thomas, Dudley Whitener, Neal Whitener, Clayton Whitener, Carthel Whitener and Harold Whitener, one sister Peggy Whitener and one grandson, Richard David Whitener.Survivors include three sons, Charles Whitener of Newark, Raymond Whitener of Bridgeport, Texas and Caroll Whitener of Pleasant Plains, one sister, Gertrude Scott of St. Louis, Missouri, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Don Cross officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery located near Floral with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Bobby Whitener, Jonny Whitener, Ricky Whitener, Derick Whitener, Glen Whitener and Randall Gardner.
