Brandt Lee Mathews

Brandt Lee Dane Mathews, age 14 of Cave City went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Evening Shade. He was born May 1, 1997 at Newport, Arkansas to Tim and Carol St. John Mathews. Brandt was a freshman at Cave City High School where he participated in all types of sports. Brandt was a wonderful son, brother and friend. He loved his family and friends and meeting new people. He loved Jesus and God and shared his faith with others. Brandt had a big heart with lots of love for everyone he met. He was a mentor to many and when someone was down on their luck or having a hard time; Brandt was there for them always smiling, encouraging and uplifting. Brandt recently made this comment to a friend who was down because their ballgame had been lost, 'It's not if you win or lose because you always win if you try. Brandt loved the outdoors and building things and having a bonfire. Brandt was a Christian and attended the Cave City Church of God in Cave City. He was preceded in death by his father, Tim Mathews, his grandfather, Danny Mathews, his grandmother, June Hoover, his great grandfather, Guy Mathews, an uncle Casey Danny Mathews, one sister Amber Joy Mathews and his best friend Spike the dog.Survivors include his mother Carol Mathews of the home, three brothers, Austin Williams and Chaz Mathews both of Cave City and Tanner Mathews of Beebe, his grandparents, Cynthia and Jim Ford of Batesville and Tommy St. John and Karen Isley of Cave City, his great grandmother, Maxine Mathews of Clarendon three aunts, Shae St. John of Cave City, Leslie Young of Newport and Amanda Hoover of Marianna, two uncles, Shawn Mathews of Heber Springs and Dewayne Queen of Beebe, cousins, Codie St. John, Shawn Young of Highland, Tyler Hoover of Batesville and Joey Young of Marked Tree and his cat, Tiger.Funeral services will be Friday, November 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the new Cave City High School Gymnasium with Bro. Allen Brown and Bro. Ron Canard officiating. Burial will follow in the Cave City Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.Visitation will be Friday, November 25, 2001 from 12:00 noon until service time at the gymnasium.Pallbearers are Coach Jimmy Hodges, Coach Tim Appleget, Coach Jon Bradley, Coach Travis Stewart, Coach Allen Reding, Coach Bryan Lloyd and Coach John Sweeny, Chaz Mathews and Austin Williams.Honorary pallbearers are all Cave City School Athletic Departments and the Cave City High School Freshman Class.Memorials may be made to help with funeral expenses incurred to Carol Mathews c/o First Community Bank, any First Community Bank location will have account information.
