J. H. Truitt Jr.

J. H. Truitt, Jr., age 87 of Iola, Kansas died Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Iola Nursing Center. He was born February 21, 1924 at Tuckerman, Arkansas the son of Hubert and Ida (Goins) Truitt, Sr. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On March 17, 1945 J.H. married Nila Russell and they made their home in Arkansas until moving to Kansas in 1952. In 1960 they made their home in Iola. He worked with dairy cattle most of his life and was employed by Strickler Dairy in Iola for a number of years. He later worked at MacDonald's Restaurant until ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Iola.Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Nila Truitt of the home, one son Gary Truitt of Russell, Kansas, one daughter, Phyllis Truitt of Springdale, one sister, Leola Woodruff of Tuckerman, three grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.Visitation will be Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with a graveside service immediately following at the Evening Shade Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
