Douglas 'Doug' Adams, age 69 of Batesville died Monday, January 2, 2012 at a Little Rock hospital. He was born April 24, 1942 at Cushman, Arkansas to Bennie and Audley Claxton Adams. He was an educator, served in the House of Representatives 3 terms and was a banker. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a Master Mason of Smithville Lodge # 29 and was of the Baptist faith.He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Wendel Adams, Wilbur Adams and infant brother, Donald Adams.Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Adams of the home, three sons, Doug Adams and wife Liz, Wendel Adams and wife Angie all of Batesville and Ryan Adams and wife Melanie of Russell, one brother, Bennie Adams Jr. of Heber Springs, eleven grandchildren, Blake Adams and Annie Winn both of Batesville, Emily Barbosa of Texas, Haley Bell and Whitney Bell both of Strawberry, R. J. Adams and Savannah Adams both of Russell, Bobbye Sue Adams and Maggye Adams both of Batesville, Sierra Adams of Russell and Blakelye Adams of Batesville several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will begin Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel with Chris Laman officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery located at Batesville with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.Pallbearers will be Mike Claxton, Gary Garner, Kenny Adams, Blake Adams, R. J. Adams, John Garner, Jimmy Claxton, Bobby Claxton, O.J. 'Folksie' Laman, Diane Jaffery and Beck James.Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Adams, Greg Adams, Jeff Adams, Gene Roberson, Mitch Bell, Doug Bennett, Carrol Wilmuth, Tom Penn, Jeral Hastings, Jerry Oliver, Rudolph Amann and Robert Williams.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society of the charity of choice.
