Richard W. Scoope, age 62 of Poughkeepsie died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at a Batesville hospital. He was born October 18, 1949 in Pueblo, Colorado, to Leslie Scoope Jr. and Alice M. Demmel Scoope. He was a former automobile mechanic with a passion for working and tinkering on old trucks, woodworking and collecting guns and antique tools. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing funny songs and enjoyed attending family reunions. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and previously served as Branch President in Batesville.He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Scoope Jr.Survivors include his wife, Joann Durbin Scoope of the home, his mother and step father, Alice M. Short and Sam Short of Whitehall, three sons, Mike Short of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Matthew Scoope of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dalton Scoope of Poughkeepsie, three daughters, Diane Short Krum of Phoenix, Arizona, Amanda Scoope Davis of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Sarah Scoope Dayley of Provo, Utah, four sisters, Wanda Burke of Phoenix, Arizona, Helen Murphy of Red Oak, Iowa, Charlotte Cooper of Denver, Colorado and Kathy Lowrey of Whitehall, two brothers, Fred Scoope of Edgeood, New Mexico and Jerry Scoope of Denver, Colorado, ten grandchildren, Michael Junior Short, Andrew Short, Parker Short, Zachary Krum, Lindsay Krum, Jaiden Scoope, Averie Scoope, Tahlia Scoope, Tyler Davis and Natalie Davis, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Batesville with First Counselor Larry Kruse and Bishop Jade Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Spotts Cemetery located at Poughkeepsie with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Church.Pallbearers will be Mike Short, Andrew Davis, John Payton and Matthew Scoope.
