Fred A. O’Dell, age 92 of Pleasant Plains died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born July 15, 1919 at Imboden, Arkansas to Thomas A. and Martha Jones O’Dell. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, retired from the Memphis State University where he worked as an armed security officer. He also farmed the biggest part of his life and enjoyed gardening. He had served as a deacon at the Kensington Baptist Church in Memphis. He was a member of the Independence Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Clara Faye O’Dell and four brothers, Cecil O’Dell, Perry O’Dell, Sid O’Dell and Ed O’Dell. Survivors include two sons, Joe O’Dell and John O’Dell both of Pleasant Plains, one daughter, Julie Wilbur of Knoxville, Tennessee, a sister, Martha Moore of Pleasant Plains, four grandchildren, Nicholas David Wilbur of Knoxville, Tennessee, Emily Claire Wilbur of Denver, Colorado, Makenna Machae O’Dell and Kiernan Mae O’Dell, a step great grandson, Dristan Smith and a step great granddaughter, Megan Lynn Tate and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will begin Friday, June 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Putman Cemetery located in Pleasant Plains with Bro. Brad Roberts officiating. Arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service. Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Hampton, Shane Martin, Ralph Smith, Alex Britt, Dan Wilbur and Bodie Payne.
