Charles C. Whitener age 71 of Newark died Wednesday June 20, 2012 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born February 17, 1941 at Tyler, Arkansas to Howard and Irene Whitener. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, retired truck driver, diesel mechanic, farmer and an awful good daddy. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, David Whitener. Survivors include his wife, Venita Whitener of the home; one son Glenn Whitener and family of Newark; two daughters, Deborah Gardner and family and Melissa Smith and family all of Newark; two step-sons, David Skinner of Paradise, Texas and Carthel Skinner of Houston, Texas; one step-daughter, Sandra Bradley of Bowie, Texas; two brothers, Raymond Whitener of Bridgeport, Texas and Caroll Whitener of Pleasant Plains; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will begin Saturday June 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service in Batesville with Bro. Darin Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery located at Newark with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will begin Friday June 22, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Michael Rutledge, Blake Skinner, Jason Bradley, David Bracey, Terry Gipson, Rick Jennings and Mitchell Gardner.
