Jodie Palmer age 88 of Batesville died Thursday August 23, 2012 at Batesville. He was born August 9, 1924 at Pfeiffer, Arkansas to Ernest and Betty Cummings Palmer. He grew up in Arkansas, was drafted by the Army in 1944 and served 2 years 2 months and 11 days. He then married his wife Dorothy Palmer and moved to Virginia. He was married for 50 years. He retired from Arlington National Cemetery where he was a Engineer Equipment Mechanic. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and listening to gospel singing. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Palmer; his parents, Ernest and Betty Palmer; his step-mother, Lydia Palmer; one brother, Archie Wayne Palmer and one sister, Nova Majors. Survivors include one step-daughter, Barbara Gregory of Virginia; two sisters, Muriel Coles and Ernestine Carter both of Batesville; five half sisters, Helen Miller of Pine Bluff, Maggie VanWinkle of Bald Knob, Barbara Beard of Tennessee, Marie Treece of Cabot and Josie Palmer of Batesville; four half brothers, Alvin Palmer and Alton Palmer both of Cabot, Hickman Palmer of Searcy and Terry Palmer of Kentucky; two grandkids, Danny and Debbie; five great grandkids; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will begin Sunday August 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Caleb Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee’s Chapel Cemetery located at Sandtown with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will begin Saturday August 25, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Paul Don Carter, Brian Coles, Dylan Coles, Kendall Cherry, Buddy Van Winkle and Max Mize.
