J.D. Cossey

J. D. Cossey, age 68 of Cave City, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at a Batesville hospital. He was born April 13, 1944 at Charlotte, Arkansas to Grover and Ruby Lundy Cossey. He married Lois Jean Spencer on August 2, 1968 in Lexington, Missouri. They settled in California after his discharge from the United States Air Force. He worked for the Department of Defense Police at Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, CA for 30 years, retiring in 1994, as Police Commander. He was a Motorcycle Safety Instructor for 15 years, past member of the Navy Family Advocacy Case Review Board, past member of the California Peace Officers Association and of the National Peace Officers Association. He was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Lois Cossey of the home: two brothers, R.J (Smiley) Cossey of Cave City and Marvin Cossey of Evening Shade; two sisters Mildred Grissom of Ocala, FL and Olene McCallister of St. Louis, MO; several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Dean Fugett officiating. Burial will follow in the Cave City Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.. Pallbearers will be James Cossey, Clyde Cossey, Darren Cossey, Kevin Cossey, Joshua Musick, Mitchell Musick and Noel Mahan. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 North University Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72207.
