David O. Kunkel age 80 of Evening Shade died Sunday November 25, 2012 at a Batesville hospital. He was born August 29, 1932 at Evening Shade, Arkansas to Hubert and Hazel Marie Graddy Kunkel. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and a member of the Piney Fork Church of Christ at Evening Shade. He retired as Sharp County Tax Assessor after 14 years of service, had been foreman of construction at Cherokee Village and was a farmer and rancher. He was also a member of the Cave City Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ellen Saucier, Willella Charlton and Sarah Marie Christoforo. Survivors include his wife, Emmaline Casey Kunkel of the home; one son John Kunkel of Bentonville; two sisters, Johnnie Hazel Ring of Boerne, Texas and Cora Lou Murphy of Mammoth Spring; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will begin Wednesday November 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. the Piney Fork Church of Christ in Evening Shade with Dwight Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Evening Shade Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Tuesday November 27, 2012 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Brian Bailey, Andy Casey, Louis Thompson, Bobby Moody, Larry Brown and John Berryhill. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Bailey, T.J. “Sonny” Powell, Noel Arnold, Skip Franks, M.A. Graddy, Leo Qualls, Alan Keller and Monty Haley.
