Abner O. "Dobber" Martin

Abner O. “Dobber” Martin age 81 of Rosie died Friday January 11, 2013 at Batesville. Born December 17, 1931 at Rosie, Arkansas, he was the son of H.O. “Bake” Martin and Artie Stewart Martin. He was an accomplished stone mason and a dedicated brick layer. He was a member of the Rosie Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years and as a deacon for 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict and receiving a Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Korean War Service Medal. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorris Hooper Martin of the home; two sons, Roger Martin and David Martin both of Rosie; two daughters, Artie Johnson and husband Steve of Hope; and Betty Hix and husband Dennis of Jenks, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Johnson of Fayetteville. Luke Johnson and wife Sarah of Aubrey, Texas, Brandon Hix and wife Laura of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Carissa Johnson and Brittany Hix both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sadie Martin and Eli Martin both of Viola; one great grandchild, Ezra Johnson of Aubrey, Texas; one sister; Avice Young of Salado; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice Martin and Adrienne McBride; one brother, Arnold “Boe” Martin and three infant siblings. Funeral services will begin Tuesday January 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosie Baptist Church located at Rosie with Farrell Miller and Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Wyatt Cemetery located at Rosie with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will begin Monday January 14, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be James Goyne, Hal Hooper, Randle Hooper, Arnold Martin, Robert Martin and Lonnie Young. Honorary pallbearers are Alex Branscum, Andrew Branscum, Keith Crutcher, Brad Hooper, Michael Hooper, Chris Marlin, Sammy McBride, Sonny McBride, James Roy Young and the Adult Men of Rosie Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rosie Baptist Church, P.O. Box 329, Rosie, Arkansas 72571 or Wyatt Cemetery Association, 670 Goodie Creek Road, Rosie, AR 72571.
