Ida Juanita “Ida Bell” (Roach) Baxter age 98 of Batesville died Monday January 21, 2013. She was a resident of Mountain Meadows Nursing Center (Batesville Southside). She was born April 4, 1914 in Sandtown, Arkansas in Independence County to Edwin W. and Eva L. Carter Roach. Ida married Austin Lawrence Baxter in 1935. They moved to Lawrence County in October 1937 and farmed at Rt. 3, Walnut Ridge, until June 1963 and then operated Baxter Grocery on West Cache River (Hwy. 230) until they retired to Batesville, Arkansas in 1977. Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; seven brothers, Lamon Roach, Neil Roach, Jay Roach, Dean Roach, Warren Roach, Pete Roach, and Brooks Roach; seven sisters, Robbie Roach, Gladys Pool. Ruby Davis, Mollie Baxter, Vida Wilkins, Oma Fulbright and Jane Nieman. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Carl and Gail Baxter and Warren and Karen Baxter all of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Carmen Baxter of Glen Allen, Virginia, William Baxter of Cabot, DeeAnna Goode of Mansfield, Texas, Felicia Hollis of Bono, Todd Baxter of Jonesboro and Blaine Baxter of Brookland; ten great grandchildren, Aidan Baxter of Cabot, Tristan Goode of Mansfield, Texas, Heather Baxter and Haley Baxter both of Jonesboro, Cliff Baxter, Austin Baxter, Michael Baxter, Daniel Baxter, Shannon Baxter and Adam Baxter all of Brookland ; one great-great grandchild, Lily Baxter of Brookland; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will begin Friday January 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Bro. Bobby Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee’s Chapel Cemetery located at Sandtown with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will be Friday January 25, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, Ida requested memorial donations be made to the Lee’s Chapel Cemetery Fund.
