Johnny Ewelldean Qualls, age seventy-six years, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at his home in Evening Shade, Arkansas. He was born February 12, 1936 at Sidney, Arkansas to John Robert “Nig” Qualls and Nellie Pearl (Cole) Qualls. Most people know him as Dean Qualls. Dean was a heavy equipment operator and followed construction work for many years. In later years, he and his wife obtained their own equipment and did backhoe and dozer work for the public. He also was a farmer and loved seeing to his animals. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Claudie Mae Long. Survivors include his loving wife Dortha Mae (Felts) Qualls of the home; four daughters, Bobbie Sue Paysinger, Deborah Dianne Shands, Johnnie Mae Spurlock, and Sandra Dean Campbell, all of Evening Shade; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will begin Tuesday January 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Ricky Spurlock officiating. Burial will follow in the Evening Shade Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will begin Monday January 28, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be John Runsick, Kohn Runsick, Vaden Spurlock, John Shands, Larry McFarlin, Raymond Moore, Kelly Campbell and Doyle Conway. Honorary pallbearers are Frankie Ray Arnold, Eli Paysinger, J. R. Paysinger, Ethan Green, Eric Britton and Josh Shands.
