Cody James Campbell of Bethesda passed away on February 23, 2013. He was born June 24, 1994 at Batesville, Arkansas to Marty and Kristy Campbell. Cody grew up riding horses, camping and riding four-wheelers with his mom and dad and a host of friends. He loved the Chuckwagon Races at Clinton and attended every year with his parents. Cody loved hunting, particularly deer, and participating in the agricultural programs at BHS. He was an employee of the University of Arkansas-Livestock and Forestry Station at Bethesda, a job he absolutely loved, working with cattle and farm equipment. Members of the staff took him under their wings and became his great friends and mentors. He loved the Independence County Fair and showed horses every year from the time he was five, winning numerous belt buckles and plaques and having the time of his life “at the back of the barn.” He loved country music and classic rock and putting song lyrics on his Facebook page and driving the back roads with his friends. He was learning to weld and was planning to attend Black River Technical College in Pocahontas in the fall. He will be missed by his family and lots of friends. Cody was a senior at Batesville High School after attending Cushman Schools until it closed. At Batesville he was a member of the 2009-2011 Pioneer football teams as a wide receiver. He also played baseball through his junior year. Known as “Robo” to classmates, teachers, and coaches, he earned the nickname after wearing a black knee brace while recuperating from a torn ACL. He loved having that nickname. He was preceded in death by three grandparents, Vern Hicks, Micki Gebhardt and Millon Campbell and a cousin, Sydney Nicole Wright. He is survived by his parents, Marty and Kristy Campbell of the home, a brother Michael Campbell of Cushman; his grandmother, Pete Campbell, of Cushman.Three aunts and uncles; Garry and Vickie Greenfield of Cushman, Shawna and Roger Wright of Springdale and Billy Ray and Sue Turner of Cushman, ten cousins: Chantel Finnie, Trevor Finnie, Christopher Greenfield, Cristina Sanchez, Colin Wright and Cristen Wright, Casey Turner, SarahTurner, Ella Carter and Octavia Turner. Cody has too many special friends to list. Visitation will be Monday, February 25, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral Services will begin Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel at Batesville with Mike Cumnock and Carl Blankenship officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Barnes Cemetery located near Bethesda. The family will receive friends at their home at 2805 Bethesda Road. Pallbearers are Austin Rolins, Todd Coles, Travis Treadway, John Tucker, Tom Hess and Christopher Greenfield. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Fulbright, Dr. Roger Helms, Alan Cockrill, Dylan Newman Ashemore, John McCarroll, Don Hubbell and all of the employees of the Livestock and Forestry Station and the entire 2013 graduating class of Batesville High School. Some flowers will be enjoyed but memorials may be made to the Independence County Fair Association with whom an annual Horse Barn Award will be established in Cody’s memory, or the Humane Society of Independence County.
