John W. Kirkley age 89 of Evening Shade (formerly of Reno, Nevada) died Tuesday May 21, 2013 at the Cave City Nursing Home. He was born July 3, 1923 at Reno, Nevada to John Morgan and Lola Bell Goff Kirkley. He was a retired police officer for the City of Reno, Nevada, following in his father’s footsteps who was the first police chief for Reno, Nevada. He was also a crop duster. He was a Free Mason, an Army Air Corp veteran of WWII, and a founding member of the Reno Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Evening Shade. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John A. Kirkley and two sisters, Roberta Meteer and Florence Bunner. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ellen McFarlin Kirkley of the home; one daughter, Nancy Weaver of Evening Shade; three grandchildren, Nathan Marlin and Gavin Franke both of Cave City and Natalie Marlin of Little Rock; two great grandchildren; one niece, Vilora Zoller and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held Friday May 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Evening Shade with Bro. Larry Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the Masonic Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum in Reno, Nevada at a later date. Arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. No visitation is planned
