Jimmy Cordell age 67 of Higden (formerly of Cave City) died Friday January 10, 2014 at a Batesville hospital. He was born September 23, 1946 at Cave City, Arkansas to Webster Lee and Nona Faye Rawlings Cordell. He was a carpenter; former owner of Cordell’s Athletics and had worked for worked for Nevco Scoreboards. He was a 1965 graduate of Cave City High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a high school and college basketball official and was a lifetime member and former president of the Arkansas Officials Association. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed college basketball and football, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks and was a member of the Road Hogs. He enjoyed camping, RVing and spending time at the lake with his family. He was member of the Westside Baptist Church in Greers Ferry and formerly a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Cordell and Kern Cordell; four sisters, Aleene Boone, Sally Sneed, Bertie Kim and Mae Milligan and one nephew, Keith Cordell. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Kathy Cordell of the home; one son, Jason Cordell and wife Crystal of Batesville; one daughter, Kim Daughtry and husband Scott of Oil Trough; two sisters, Donna Webster of Irene, Texas and Mary Gay and husband Bobby of Cave City; five grandchildren, Jacob Daughtry, Kaitlyn Daughtry and Landon Daughtry all of Oil Trough, Carissa Cordell and Chloe Cordell both of Batesville; several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City with Bro. Ron Canard officiating. Burial will follow in the Cave City Cemetery located at Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Monday, January 13, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City. Pallbearers will be Kevin Jenkins, Roger Gay, Ronny Milligan, Donald Duncan, Lindsey Keith, Malcolm Long, Jeral Hastings and Terry Watson. Honorary pallbearers are All area coaches, AOA Officials, Rick Huckabee, Joey Huckabee, Chuck Kim, Randy Milligan, Dan Kim, Terry Garner, Gerald Provence and Lonnie Cordell. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cordell’s Kids c/o Cave City School District P.O. Box 600 Cave City, AR 72521
