Joe J. Hix age 82 of Batesville died Monday, February 17, 2014 at a Batesville hospital. He was born July 3, 1931 at Batesville, Arkansas to Winford and Minnie Cossey Hix. He was a retired Master Plumber and owner of Joe Hix Plumbing. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church at Gainesboro. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Hix; one daughter, Mary Lee Lewallen and two brothers, Jerry Hix and Virgil Hix. Survivors include one son, Ray Hix of Batesville; one daughter, Joyce Whitener of Batesville; one brother, Wayne Hix of Tenino, Washington; three sisters, Elveda Brister, Glenda James and Wanda Lee Tuten all of Batesville; six grandchildren, Jody Hix, Shandy Mathis, Matt Hix, Artie Whitener, Alan Whitener and Wendell Lewallen; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, February 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at he Liberty Baptist Church at Gainesboro with Bro. Dennis Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery located at Gainesboro with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will be Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will Matt Hix, Artie Whitener, Alan Whitener, Wendell Lewallen, Ronnie Hix and Malcom Hix.
