Evelyn Sue Powell-Johnson

Evelyn Sue Powell-Johnson age 93 of Cherokee Village passed away Monday, February 24, 2014. Evelyn was born May 31, 1920 in Sitka, Arkansas to Sanford and Laura Darnell. Evelyn will be fondly remembered for her good cooking, coconut pies, chocolate pies, biscuit and gravy, her sparkly clothes, and her great love for her children and grandchildren. She was of the Pentecostal faith. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Orphus H. Powell; her only son, Monty H. Powell; her second husband, Marvin Holland; 14 siblings and one grandson, Ricky Brandon. Evelyn leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Carl Johnson; three daughters, Jo Ann Brandon and husband Dwight, Janis Hobbs and husband Doug and Pam Hendrix and husband Jim; seven grandchildren, Randy Brandon, Ronnie Brandon, Vicky Edwards, Tammy Burkhalter, Nancy Hobbs, Dana Paul and Jon Davis; eleven great grandchildren, Kristin Brandon, Raylee Edwards, Tia Edwards, Tylor Burkhalter, Tiffany Burkhalter, Taylor Burkhalter, Caden Paul, Reece Paul, Brody Paul, Jaxson Davis and Kellen Powell Davis and one great great grandchild, Elijah Douglas Edwards as well as many other family members and a host of friends who all loved her dearly and will miss her always. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Rev. O.D. Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell’s Chapel Cemetery located near Poughkeepsie with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Brandon, Jon Wayne Davis, Thomas Burkhalter, Raylee Edwards and Chris Paul. Honorary pallbearer is Con Spurlock. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Gregory Neaville for the exemplary care he provided for her through the years and especially her final days.
