John Michael Walker age 67 of Evening Shade, Arkansas left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on April 16, 2014. He was born October, 23, 1946 to James R. Sr. and Cecile (Heath) Walker of Concord, New Hampshire. He attended high school at Concord High. One of his youngest achievements was being runner up in the Concord National Little League World Series where he helped lead his team to the finals as one of their pitchers against Puerto Rico (1-0). He loved baseball and he continued this love as a diehard Boston Red Sox fan. He attended college at Arkansas College, now Lyon College, where he was a member of Chi Beta Phi and obtained a degree in Education. He later received his Master’s Degree in Administration. He spent 40 years in the education field as a teacher, Title 1 coordinator, and administrator at Evening Shade, Highland , and other schools. The faculty and staff will forever be dear to his heart. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He loved spending time with his friends and family. He was a member of the Believer’s Community Church at Batesville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecile(Heath) Walker. Survivors include his father, James R. Walker Sr. of Concord, New Hampshire; his loving spouse of 45 years, Elizabeth (Holifield) Walker; three children, Jennifer (Walker) Kunkel and husband Charles, Julie (Walker) James and husband Christopher and Shawn Michael Walker and wife Alicia (Finn) Walker; nine grandchildren, Brittany Kunkel, Cory Kunkel, Caleb James, Cole James, Jacey James, Madison Walker, Holden Walker, Mylee Walker and Hadley Walker all of Evening Shade; one brother, James Walker Jr, of Gorham, Maine; two sisters, Carol Belanger of Evening Shade and Corinne Larkin of Kansas City, Kansas; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Graveside services will be Friday, April 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evening Shade Cemetery located at Evening Shade with David Insell officiating. Arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. No visitation is planned. Honorary pallbearers are Shawn Walker, Charles Kunkel, Christopher James, Cory Kunkel, Caleb James, Cole James, Holden Walker, Gary Shell, Jack Kimbrell and Billy Paul Boyle.
