Calvin Houston Allen

Calvin Houston Allen age 82 of Southside died Friday May 23, 2014 at a Batesville nursing home. He was born June 1, 1931 at Batesville, Arkansas to Zack and Lola Allen. He was a retired plumber. Calvin was a very friendly and out going person that never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking to people. He enjoyed working outside sawing wood and working in the Kyler Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; three half brothers and two half sisters. Survivors his wife of 61 years, Betty Allen of the home; two sons, David Allen of Monrovia, California and Joseph Allen of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Sandra Deaton of Hot Springs and Charlotte Allen of Bryan, Texas; four sisters, Ruby Armstrong of Mountain View, Doris Cole of Tyler, Texas, Betty Branscum of Southside and Bonnie Young of Southside; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Bro. David Insell officiating. Burial will follow in Kyler Cemetery located at Southside with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be are nurses and staff at Batesville Healthcare Center, Dr. Homer Brooks and all friends. In lieu of flowers and food memorials may be made to the Kyler Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Laura Guth, 4010 Batesville Blvd., Batesville, AR 72501 or Alzheimers Association (www. alz.org)
