Jimmie Ray Smith Sr. age 82 of Mount Pleasant died Monday, June 23, 2014 at his home. He was born June 13, 1932 at Delaplaine, Arkansas to James Andrew and Hazel Pearl (Moore) Smith. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise Smith; one son, Jimmie Ray Smith Jr.; one daughter, Mona Rae Smith; two brothers, Glenn Smith and Junior Smith and one sister, Violet Wilson. Survivors include nine daughters, Barbara Jean Dobbs of Springtown, Texas, Rose Lightner of Saginaw, Texas, Eva Luster of Batesville, Peggy Moreland of Graham, Texas, Sadie Palmer of Bald Knob, Cindi Griffin of Mount Pleasant, Janis Smith of Mount Pleasant, Debi Harrison of Cave City and Audrey Holowell of Mount Pleasant; two step-sons, Pat McCarron of Conway and Dan McCarron of Batesville; thirty grandchildren, fifty-one great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, June 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount Pleasant Southern Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant with Bro. Dennis Gay and Bro. Bruce Qualls officiating. Burial will follow in the Maxville Cemetery located at Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Harrison Townsley, John Wigginton, Boyce Walling, Dusty Westmoreland, Gary (Bean) Curtis, Fred Rush and Chris Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department Employees and Retirees, Leonard St.John, Terry St. John and W.C. "Dub" Evans.
