Eighty-six year old Ella Smith was born in Batesville to Carl and Margie Atkisson, the youngest of five girls. Married for over 50 years to Bill Smith, she is survived by their only child, Becky McConnell; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; her sister, Claudia Hedden; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She trusted Christ with her life when she was five years old and answered God’s call to the mission field of her life, serving Him quietly wherever she lived and worked, retiring from Southwestern Bell after 48 years. Over the years, she taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, volunteered to cook for the men at John 3:16 Ministries, and was a steadfast prayer warrior for her family and friends. Her life was a model of how to live grounded in faith and for the past several years, how to pass gracefully into eternity powered by unwavering trust, safe into the arms of God. She was wealthy beyond measure in the things that matter most, the love of family and friends and the security of knowing that her last breath on earth on September 11, 2014,was followed by her first breath in eternity with Christ. Heaven is brighter with her homegoing, this world noticeably dimmer. Everyone who experienced her sweet, kind spirit, will miss her until we see her again in Heaven. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Bro. Bob Dailey officiating.
