Rhonald H. Duncan Jr. age 92 of Batesville died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at a Batesville nursing home. He was born April 30, 1922 at Biscoe, Arkansas to Rhonald H. Duncan Sr. and Dora Bell (Shirley) Duncan. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII and of the Baptist faith. He served in the Southern Phillipines and was a rifleman with the 96th Division. He was wounded in action at Okinawa and Layte. He was awarded the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star and arrowhead, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two battle stars; two Purple Hearts and a Good Conduct Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie Maxine Duncan; two sons, Ronnie Duncan and Gary Duncan; two daughters, Diana Shipman and Lana Luster; two brothers, Nicky Powell and infant brother, Charlie Frederick Duncan; and three sisters, Virginia Searcy, Peggy Swaims and Lois Powell. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Duncan and Darrel Duncan both of Locust Grove; one daughter, Sharon Brown of Jacksonville; two brothers, Charles Lee Powell of Rosebud and Harvey J. Powell of Searcy; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, September 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Billy Wayne Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Egner Cemetery located at Salado with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will be Friday, September 26, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Matt Duncan, Cody Duncan, John Duncan, Andy Brown, Jeff Brown, Ronnie Shipman and Chancey Hogan.
