Lloyd Lackey age 71 of Batesville died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at a Batesville hospital. He was born May 13, 1943 at Calamine, Arkansas to Vivian and Estella (Christenberry) Lackey. He graduated from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) in Batesville and went on to receive a Masters Degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He coached at Poughkeepsie for one year from 1966-67; coached and served as Principal at the Wheatley Schools for 10 years from 1967-77; served as Superintendent for Sulphur Rock Schools for 8 years from 1977-85; was Superintendent of Grubbs Public Schools for 4 years from 1985 -89 and served as Superintendent of Harrisburg Public Schools for 7 years from 1989-96. He served as a member of the Arkansas Association for Public School Administrators from 1983-89 and served as president of the AASA from 1987-88. Lloyd retired in 1996 at the age of 53 and moved back to Sulphur Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris Henderson and a brother- in-law, Bob Henderson. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen West Lackey of the home; one son, Paul Lackey and wife Stacy of Sherwood; one brother, Robert Lackey and wife Sharon of Mountain Home; one sister, Linda Bullington and husband Charles of Charlotte; one granddaughter, Emma Lackey of Sherwood; several nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Mike Conyers officiating. Burial will follow in the Milligan Campground Cemetery located at Calamine with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mike West, Frank Bullington, James Huskey, Danny West, David West and James Allen Anderson.
