Mary Lanelle (Johnston) Norton age 98 of Bono (formerly of Batesville) passed away at her home on Monday, December 15, 2014. She was born on February 16, 1916 at Bexar, Arkansas to Rev. J.W. and Ernestine (Smith) Johnston. She was a 60 year member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church in Batesville and later of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro. She taught school in Casey Town, Big Flat, Viola, Evening Shade, Cave City, Mt. View, Cord and Batesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carl Johnston, Paul Johnston and Bill Johnston and three sisters, Ophelia Dobbs, Ruth Fischer and Lillian Dockins. She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Lyndell Norton of the home; one son, Tom Norton and wife Barbara of Grandbury, Texas; one daughter, Pat Cole and husband Jim of Bono; five granddaughters, Dee Ann Terrell of Jonesboro, Sherri Slaven of Bono, Terri Bowers, Rebecca Funk and Amy Oiler all of Houston; eleven great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Avenue United Methodist Church in Batesville. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery located in Batesville with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will be Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Andy Slaven, Drew Slaven, Reid Slaven, Christopher Halk, Van Terrell, Ray Blanchard, Sam Bowers and Nathaniel Oiler.
