Johnny H. Smith “The Breadman” age 75 of Batesville died Friday, December 19, 2014 at a Batesville nursing home. He was born December 24, 1938 at Batesville, Arkansas to John Wesley and Minnie Eva (McCoy) Smith. He was retired Ideal Bakery in Batesville where he worked many years as a route salesman and during his retirement years he worked as a funeral assistant for Qualls Batesville Funeral Service in Batesville. He was a member of the New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bethesda where he served as an elder. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Peggy Jo Smith and two brothers, Carthel Paul Smith and Gary Smith. Survivors include two daughters, Janie Starnes and husband Mark and Jeannie Sade and husband Chad all of Batesville; one sister, Goldie Darnell of the Hutchinson Mountain Community; five grandchildren, Phillip Halfacre and wife Amber of Springdale, Seth Sade and wife Bridgette of Little Rock; Sam Halfacre of Cherokee Village, Michael Starnes and wife Sandy of Pleasant Plains and Jonathan Starnes and wife Marlena of Batesville; five great grandchildren, Joslyn Hanna, William Starnes, Andrew Starnes, Jacob Starnes and Tucker Starnes; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Rev. Wayne Wood officiating. Arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers are His grandchildren, the congregations of New Hope and Faith Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Churches, the staff at Woodlawn Heights Nursing Home, Charles Hon, Randal Moore, Jeff Qualls, Jimmie Anne Mitchum, Chad Sade and Mark Starnes. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Humane Society of Independence County.
