Hazel Goff Russell age 89 of Poughkeepsie passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Cave City. She was born January 22, 1926 at Smithville, Arkansas, the daughter of George and Nissa Peebles Goff. She married Owen Russell on January 26, 1946 and they were married for 49 years. She was a housewife, retired teacher and a member of the Church of Christ. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1943 and earned a B.S.E. degree from Arkansas State College in 1955 and a M.S.E. degree from Arkansas State University in 1967. She earned 21 hours of postgraduate work at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was a teacher in Sharp and Lawrence counties for 40 years and served as principal at Cave City Elementary School. She was a member of the board of directors of the Sharp Nursing Home, Sharp County Library Board and Sharp County Extension Service. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Sybil Louise Goff; three brothers, Lloyd N. Goff, Eugene Goff and Millard Goff; one niece, Libby Goff and two nephews, Wayne Goff and Sean Smith Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Margaret Goff of Concord, North Carolina, Ruby Nell Goff of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Peggy Goff of Fayetteville, Arkansas; three nieces, Rhonda Byrd, Doris Smith and Judy Higgins; two nephews, Lloyd N. Goff II and Don Goff; seven great nephews; three great nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Troy Henley officiating. Burial will follow in the Evening Shade Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Darrell Parsley, Dean Parsley, Don Goff, Lloyd Goff, Arnell Russell and Ray Higgins.
