Vergil Edison “Britt” Melton age 98 of Strawberry died Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home. He was born December 5, 1916 at Dowdy, Arkansas to Percey and Cora Latting Melton. He was a retired field salesman for Armco Steel National Supply. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Albion, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, W.O. Prince; three brothers, Troy Prince, Roy Prince and Ancel Prince and one sister, Bertie Olene Melton Coleman. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Rhudene Melton of the home; one daughter, Rebecca Schroeder of Strawberry; one sister, Beatrice Northcutt of Wichita, Kansas; one granddaughter, Dawn Monice Schroeder of Orange, California; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will held Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Paul Sowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery located at Strawberry with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Monday, March 23, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Noel Duncan, Stanley Mayland, Peter Ward, A.L. Latting, Henry Clarke and Jimmy Bell.
