Dorris Martin, 81 of Rosie died Sunday, May 15, 2016. She was born January 8, 1935. She was a member of the Rosie Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher for 62 years. She worked at the Salado Post Office for 26 years and served 16 of those years as Postmaster. She retired in June of 2002. She was a counselor and confidant to many friends and family members. Her hobbies were birdwatching, quilting, needlework and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abner “Dobber” Martin; mother, Pyxie Hooper; father, J.M. Hooper and brother, L.J. “Joe” Hooper. Survivors include two sons, Roger Martin and David Martin both of Rosie; two daughters, Artie Johnson and husband Steve of Hope and Betty Hix and husband Dennis of Jenks, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Johnson of Texarkana, TX, Luke Johnson and wife Sarah of Manhattan, KS, Brandon Hix and wife Laura of Tulsa, OK, Carissa Poverud and husband Nic of Glenpool, OK, Brittany Hix of Tulsa, OK, Sadie Martin and Eli Martin both of Viola; one great grandson, Ezra Johnson of Manhattan, KS; four sisters, Betty Crutcher, Amy Goyne, Barbara Marlin and Judy Branscum; three brothers, Clay Hooper, J.D. Hooper and J.M. Hooper; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosie Baptist Church with Bro. Farrell Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Wyatt Cemetery at Rosie with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service. Visitation, Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are nephews, Alex Branscum, Andrew Branscum, Keith Crutcher, James Goyne, Brad Hooper, Hal Hooper, Michael Hooper, Randle Hooper and Chris Marlin.
