Mr. Lafon Gene (L.G. “Pete”) Wilf, 89 of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Batesville, Arkansas at the home of his niece. Pete was born November 27, 1926 in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas to the late Grover and Ethel Wilf. Pete was very patriotic and respectfully supported our nation’s leaders. He enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his discharge he became a cowboy and worked at the Sun Canyon Dude Ranch in New York and at cattle ranches in Matador, Texas and Bell, New Mexico. He later returned to Pleasant Plains and assumed ownership of the family farm and became a cattle rancher. He was a long time member of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association and the Arkansas Farm Bureau. For many years , he served as a judge for the Pleasant Plains Saddle Club and was honored in 1990 with a trophy in appreciation for his years of service and he spent a lifetime supporting the young people of Independence County and surrounding counties. Pete took pride in the Cedar Grove Cemetery and served on the association board for many years. As a member of the White River Twirlers, he also enjoyed square dancing. Pete was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Warren and Velda Alexander, and four brothers, Woodrow Wilf, Boyce Wilf, Leland Wilf and Horace Lee Wilf. He is survived by a brother, Gale Wilf (Carol) of Blytheville, Arkansas, a special niece and caregiver, Sherry Lee Adcock (Ray) of Batesville, Arkansas, a special friend, Barbara Sample of Floral, Arkansas and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Graveside services and burial will be Friday, September 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Floral. Visitation will be Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service in Batesville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Scott Gay, Wayne Gay, Todd Adcock, Donnie Adcock, Mark Wilf and Jeremy Gay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pine Grove Cemetery Fund or the Cedar Grove Cemetery Fund.
