William Paul Garner, 83 of Batesville died Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was born December 14, 1932 at Cord, Arkansas to Charles Melvin and Ruby Thelma Bench Garner. He was a retired elementary school teacher having taught at Bethesda, Batesville and Cushman. He was a member of the North Heights Church of Christ in Batesville where he served as an elder for 30 plus years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Buddy Garner and Melvin Garner and sisters, Thelma Louise Weed and Althea Mae Owens. Survivors include his wife of 60 years Mary Jane Sturdivant Garner of the home; sons, Danny Paul Garner and Bobby Lane Garner both of Batesville; daughter, Donna Gail Garner Cole of Batesville; sister, Wanda Lee Jones Purscell of Bryant; 6 grandchildren, Randy Garner of Tuscon, Arizona, Tim Garner of Phoenix, Arizona, Elizabeth Garner of Fort smith, Logan Cole of Batesville, Emily Cole of Batesville and Dylan Goff of Searcy; 6 great grandchildren, Brandon, Elias, Anthony, Abrem, Marcus and Adian; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Heights Church of Christ in Batesville with Dean Fugett and Dr. Ed Myers officiating. Private burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery located at Newark with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville. Visitation will be Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Don Gregory, Gary Rhodes, Mark Skelton, James Smith, Tommy Wammack and Bill Whittington. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Cole, Boyce Harmon, His grandsons and Great Grandsons.
