Colene Scott Lewis age 88 of Cave City died Friday, December 30, 2016 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. She was born April 21, 1928 at Sulphur Rock, Arkansas to William Herbert and Beulah Mae (Morton) Scott. She was a 1946 graduate of Sulphur Rock High School, and a 1948 graduate of Fern Eaton College of Cosmetology in Little Rock. She worked as a practical nurse in the late 1940’s and also as a bank clerk for First National Bank of Batesville. She worked in the offices of the International Shoe Company of Batesville for 15 years. During the next 20 years, she devoted much of her time to caring for family members, including her late husband. Later she returned to work as a bank teller for The Bank of Cave City for several years, before retiring in 1999. Colene was an avid reader. She loved reading her Bible, inspirational literature, and studying medical publications. Other hobbies included cooking, baking cakes and trying new recipes. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music and inspirational messages. Colene was a faithful member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Cave City since 1951. She served her church in various ways including: children’s teacher, nursery worker, youth committee and was a member of the ladies auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, William Girtman Lewis; a brother, William Doyle Scott and her beloved granddaughter, Beth Simpson. Survivors include two daughters, Gina Myers (Roger) and Tina Simpson (Dewayne) all of Cave City; four grandchildren, Typhanie Myers of Cave City, Megan Martin (Trent) of Batesville; Robby Myers (Alyssa) of Jonesboro and Laura French (Andy) of Cave City; five great grandchildren, Alli Shands, Abri Franke, Micah Martin, Jude Martin and Jane Myers; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City with Bro. Ron Canard and Bro. Grayden Milligan officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery east of Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Nephews. Honorary pallbearers are First Missionary Baptist Church Auditorium Sunday School Class, Ruth Brogdon, Ruth Robinson, Jack and Geraldine Zelasko, Lenora Carter, Billy Wayne Bacon, Norman and Wanda Girtman, James Oarth and Mary Bacon and all her personal caregivers.
