Thomas Clay "Tom" Taylor Jr.

Thomas Clay "Tom" Taylor, Jr. went to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 6, 2017. He was born on August 7, 1942 in Cave City, Arkansas to Clay and Ila Brewer Taylor of Cave City. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Donna Matlock Taylor of Bryant; two daughters, Pamela and Scott Hill of Chester, MD, Robin and Mark Vanness of Little Rock; one son, Chris and Tammy Taylor of Benton; nine grandchildren, Jeremy and Kalisha Hill of Austin, TX, Josh and Joan Hill of Conway, Noah and April Hill of Moore, OK, Beau and Tiffnee Hampton of Little Rock, Taylor and Colter Donnelly of Batesville, Jessie Taylor of Maumelle, Shelli Hampton of Little Rock, Emma Taylor and and Jake Taylor both of Benton; seven great-grandchildren, Karson, Max, Britton and Grady Hill all of Moore, OK, Andrea and Ana Hill of Conway and Ada Hampton of Little Rock; two sisters, Carrie Watson of Cave City and Dorothy Taylor of Batesville; four sisters-in-law, Brenda Taylor, Pat Taylor, Kay Winters and Barb Matheny; one brother-in-law, Paul Matlock; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Gregory Harrell, three brothers, Bill, Charles and John Taylor and one sister, Jo Mullen. Tom was of the Baptist faith and a deacon. He was a 32nd degree mason and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of Cave City High School and University of Southern California with a degree in engineering. He spent most of his career as an Executive Engineer for hospitals in Batesville and El Dorado, as well as serving on several boards for schools of engineering and advisory boards in his field. He received the A.W. "Doc" Zimmerly Award for Outstanding Leadership in Engineering. He was also a licensed real estate agent. Throughout his life he was an avid wood carver and loved working with wood. He was quoted as saying many times that his greatest accomplishment in life was being a husband, father, and grandfather. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City. Burial will follow in the Cave City Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tom's nephews, Jerry Matheny, Jimmy Taylor, Dan Watson, Mitchell Walling, Glen Kerlin, Mike Brummitt, Lannie Hensley, Eddie Walling and Nathan Walling. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandsons Jeremy Hill, Josh Hill, Noah Hill, Beau Hampton and Colter Donnelly.
