Billy Dean Kunkel age 80 of Evening Shade went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born May 9, 1936 at Evening Shade, Arkansas to Roscoe and Susie Rush Kunkel. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 and was stationed in Greenland and as an SP4. He married Geraldine Ables on November 26, 1960. He served as Sharp County Treasurer from 1979-1984. He retired from the Arkansas Poultry and Livestock Commission in 1998 as a livestock inspector and retired from the Sharp County Road Department in 2014. He also served on the Evening Shade School Board and was of the Church of Christ faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman Dale Kunkel. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Geraldine Kunkel of the home; one son, Charles Dean Kunkel and wife Jennifer of Poughkeepsie; three daughters, Wanda Girtman and husband, Norman of Cave City, Linda Landers and friend Kent Bradway of Ash Flat and Betty Kunkel of Branson, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Stanley Landers, Aaron Hunter, Jennifer Cooper, Stephanie Dittmar, Ashley Patton, Tiffany Cochran, Heather Luther, Travis Johnson, Brittany Kunkel and Cory Dean Kunkel; eighteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Kunkel and wife Reba and Virgil Kunkel and wife Sharon all of Evening Shade ; a sister, Jean Dodd and husband Jerry of St. Clair, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Ron Canard officiating. Burial will follow in the Baker Cemetery located west of Evening Shade. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ray Barker, Marty Campbell, Bo Lord, Donald Jones, Nicky Pearson and J.E. Murphy.
