Rev. Edgar Cain

February 8, 1929 — July 19, 2017

Rev. Edgar Cain, 88 of Batesville (formerly of Cave City) went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. He was born on February 8, 1929 in Gilbert, Louisiana to George and Eva Cater Cain. The family moved to Eudora, Arkansas in 1936 to homestead 80 acres. He was an avid hunter with his brothers and cousins. He loved to tell stories about his adventures. His last deer hunt was at the young age of 86. He joined the Army in 1951 during the Korean War and served in Germany. Later he taught his children their first foreign words, German. After his service he became a welder and traveled to north central Kansas where he met a cute dark haired waitress. He fell in love but moved back to Arkansas. He couldn’t get her out of his mind so he went back to Lucas, Kansas and married Katherine McMillen on December 8, 1954. He always said besides knowing the Lord marrying her was the best thing he had done. They traveled from Kansas to New York, Florida and other states with two small children. They settled back in Eudora, Arkansas to help on the family farm and pipeline and brought two more children into the world. He became a Christian and joined the Boeuf River Church of God (rural Eudora) until he became a minister. In the early 1970’s, he was called to preach and moved his family from the Delta to the mountains. While in Mountain Home he built the current church building. After serving there he went on to pastor at Corinth (Cave City), Marianna, Cave City, Trumann, Roosevelt, Booneville, and back to Cave City, where he retired but continued to show the love of Jesus through his local church. The love of his life was his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known to take them to the livestock barn, hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling, and listening for turkeys. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine McMillen Cain of Batesville; daughters, Christene Barnett (Dwight) of Cave City, Pauline Sturch (Keith) of Batesville, Carla Dickey (Phillip) of Conway; grandchildren, Brandon Barnett, David Barnett (Amy), Bradley Dickey (Kristi), Brian Dickey, Kayla Dickey Payton (Nick) and Hannah Sturch Caldwell (Preston); great grandchildren, Taylor Barnett and Wyatt Payton and soon to be arriving baby, Penelope Dickey; brothers, Roy Cain (Jeannie), Bill Cain (Millie); sister, Myrlene Cossey (James); sisters–in-law, Lily, Rosie and Joyce Cain; seventeen nieces and nephews and extended family in Louisiana and Mississippi and many friends all over the country. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Steven Edgar Cain; brothers, Edward, Rufus, George and Jr. Cain and sisters, Thelma Stacey and Louise Suggs. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cave City Church of God with Rev. Allen Brown, Roy Cain and James Cossey officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnett Cemetery located near Sandtown with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Honduras Mission Project, Cave City Church of God, 1995 Cold Creek Lane, Cave City, AR 72521. The family would like to thank Dr. Kahn and the staff at Batesville Oncology for their love and care during the past 10 months.
