Carney Delbert Bettis (aka, Papa Bear/Uncle Delbert), 93 of Poughkeepsie passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Cave City Nursing Home. He was born June 1, 1924 at Salem, Arkansas to Leslie and Emma (Ratliff) Bettis. He was a retired master electrician from I.B.E.W. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran, a recipient of two Bronze Stars and a lifetime member of the DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Patricia Bettis; one brother, William Bettis; one sister, Imogene Bettis Norris; one great grandson, Ryne Bates and Ruth Jarrett Bettis. Survivors include sons, Gary Bettis of Batesville and Ron Bettis and wife Linda of Conway; daughters, Suzette Bates and husband Terry of Cave City and Deborah Boles of Poughkeepsie; ten grandchildren, Christy, Casey, Lauren, Greg, Hollie, Farrah, Matt, Eric, Donnie and David; twelve great grandchildren; special friend and dancing partner, Ernestine Boyce of Batesville; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with his nephew, Nathan Norris officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery located on Pleasant Ridge Road at Poughkeepsie. Visitation will be Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Eric Bates, Donnie Goudeau, Greg Bettis, David Goudeau, Matt Bettis and Kenneth Seat. Honorary pallbearers are his nieces and nephews along with Aaron Sims, Ronnie Smead, Donnie Mitchell, Paul Mitchell, Raymond Davis, Dr. Siddiqui, Doc Freeman and all the baseball players that Dad coached and mentored over the years. A special thank you to Cave City Nursing Home and Hospice of North Arkansas for their services, kindness and quality of care for our Dad.
