Thomas Lyndell Norton, 100 of Bono (formerly of Batesville) died Sunday, August 13, 2017 at his home. He was born December 7, 1916 at Sitka, Arkansas to Jesse Thomas and Orpha Mae (Spurlock) Norton. He was a member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church in Batesville for 60 years, and then a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. He taught school in Sharp, Stone and Baxter counties for eight years. He was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran. He then had a career with the U.S. Postal Service in Batesville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Lanelle Norton; his parents; brothers, Foster Norton, Arden Norton, Edward Norton and Herbert Norton and sisters, Rena Sanders, Myrtle Breeding, Ruby Touchstone and Jesse Whitson. Survivors include daughter, Pat Cole (Jim) of Bono; son, Tom Norton (Barbara) of Granbury, Texas; five granddaughters, Dee Ann Terrell (Van) of Jonesboro, Sherri Slaven (Andy) of Bono, Terri Bowers (Thadd), Rebecca Funk (Jim) and Amy Oiler (Shawn) all of Houston; thirteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Rev. John Miles officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.
