Norman Nelson Girtman, 80 of Cave City went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. He was born on January 12, 1937 to McKinley and Alma (Brogdon) Girtman. He leaves behind to miss him his wife, Wanda Kunkel Girtman; sons, Greg Girtman and Aaron Hunter; daughter, Teresa McKay; his granddaughter and grandson, Mariessa and Michael Foley; his great granddaughters, Olivia and Alissa Foley and his sister, Kayrene and Sam Asberry all of Cave City; several nieces and nephews and lots of friends that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Della Mae Fleetwood; two brothers, W.C. Girtman and Edward Mack “Lightnin” Girtman; three nephews, Danny Fleetwood, Larry Girtman and Brent Asberry; and several good friends. Norman had retired in 2004 as Sharp County Treasurer, a position he had held for 20 years. He was a member of the Cave City First Missionary Baptist Church, a former member of the Cave City School Board, the Cave City Fire Department and the National Guard. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cave City First Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Canard and Bro. Daniel Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery on Grange Road east of Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Cave City First Missionary Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Todd Price, Eddie Walling, Ernest Ray Doyle, Paul Matthews, Brandon Schulz, Kurt Meskimen, Brian Carter and Jim Smith. Honorary pallbearer is His Basketball Traveling Buddy, Calvin “Red” Lassiter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cave City First Baptist Church Youth Fund at P.O. Box 124, Cave City, AR 72521 or Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
