Grace Marie Moore

July 24, 1917 — January 5, 2018

Grace Marie Moore, 100, passed peacefully at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Batesville, AR on Friday, January 5, 2018. Grace was born on July 24, 1917 in Henderson, AR. to Calvin, and Ina Moore. She was the seventh of ten children (John, Calvin, Ray, Clarence, Mid, Lottie, Bessie, Ruby, and Eva) to that marriage. The family moved to Amagon, AR when she was six and she resided there until she married Thearon Ray Moore on February 6, 1933 in the Jackson County Courthouse, Newport, AR. They then moved to the Huff community—via horse and buggy—to the residence she called home till 2016. The marriage produced four children, Vonnie Dell Deal (Don) of Bethany, OK; Covie Ray Moore, of Denver, CO; Colleen Marie Kephart(George) of Huff, and Dennis F Moore, of Huff. They were married for sixty eight years until his passing in 2001. Grace was a homemaker, and worked outside the home in Barnett’s Department Store in Batesville during the 70’s. She prided herself in cooking, tending her garden (well, truck patch to some), making sure everything was clean and neat and her prowess at manual labor, i.e. being able to pick over 400 lbs of cotton in one day. She was an expert quilt maker and loved to show her handiwork to all who came to visit. She routinely cared for her farm animals and had a special love of outdoor cats. Her Karo Nut pies (insisting on using only Karo syrup and pecans she had gleaned by hand) served at church dinners and family gatherings were legendary. But upon serving something delicious, she’d exclaim, “I’m not sure you’ll like this.” Having experienced the depression and all of its indignities, she’d go the extra mile to save a penny or wring out a fraction of a percent in interest from a bank. She lived long enough to see the farm she tended receive the Century Old Farm designation in 2013. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Swaims Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by daughter Vonnie, sons, Dennis and Covie and a sister, Ruby Whitaker of Choctaw, OK. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Debbie (Steve) Daily of Oklahoma City; Rexeen (Michael) Jordan of Jonesboro, AR; Ron (Anna ) Lucy of Batesville, AR; Dondra (Mitch) Floresca, Edmond, OK; Amanda (Mark) McBride, Denver, CO; Denise (Kenny) Edwards, Arden, NC; and Laura (David) Guth of Batesville, AR; and by sixteen great-grandkids, and eleven great-great-grandkids. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter Colleen and husband, Thearon. The family wants to extend their thanks to the staff of Eagle Mountain Assisted Living and Woodlawn Nursing Home for compassionate care during her final year. Additionally, we want to thank Dr Bob Walton for a generation of caring and Dr Jordan Weaver for assisting in her final days. Visitation will be held at Qualls Batesville Funeral Service, Batesville, AR from 6 to 8 PM, Monday, January 8, 2018, with the funeral at 10 AM, at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, with Wesley Roberts officiating. Pallbearers will be: David Guth, Mitch Floresca, Mark McBride, Steve Daily, Dr Kenneth Guthrie, and Ron Lucy. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Bechdoldt and Nelson Barnett. Burial will be in Kyler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, one can make donations to Kyler Cemetery Maintenance Fund, % Laura Guth, 4010 Batesville Blvd, Batesville, AR, 72501 or Swaims Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, % Gloria Galloway, 100 Oak Grove Rd, Batesville, AR, 72501
