Gwendolyn Sue Coots, age 76 of Floral, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Woodlawn Heights Nursing Home. She was born to the late Woodrow and Guila (Jefford) Bailey on August 4, 1941. She served 6 years as deputy tax assessor and 18 years as the Tax Assessor for Independence County. She was a Christian and faithful member of Floral Baptist Church where she served as the church treasurer for 31 years. Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Kimberly Sue Coots. Survivors include her husband, Dick Coots of the home; a daughter, Sheila (Stephen) Devan; two granddaughters, Brittany (Bryant) Furr and Taylor Devan and great-grandson, Tyler Furr all of Madison, Mississippi; brother, Bill Bailey of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Floral Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Fowler and Bro. Joe Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery at Floral with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service. Visitation will be Friday, February 23, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Coots, Gary Coots, Tony Bell, Roger Jefford, James Finley, Lennie Frazier. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class of Floral Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Floral Baptist Church in memory of Sue Coots.
